Brown rice farina

Some mornings feel like porridge mornings. Even in summer I find I crave a porridge now and again, in between my savoury brown rice creations or congee.

Recently I stumbled across brown rice farina cereal – which is milled brown rice, that gets cooked up and served hot. Very porridge like.

I used a Bob’s Red Mill product – called Organic Brown Rice Farina (have a hunt around online to find out where you can buy it. I got mine from The Fruitologist in Sydney’s east. I did see through a quick google that you can buy online).

What it looks like before cooking

Even though I have an on average time of 4.5 minutes to get breakfast for myself in the mornings, I still have time to make this. I do half a cup of cereal to 1.5 cups of water, with a small pinch of salt. Bring it all to the boil in a small saucepan and cook for a few minutes. It will spit and splutter away – so turn it down once cooking is underway.

I like to eat it with natural yoghurt, a drizzle of honey, some blueberries and chopped walnuts.

It fills me up for hours, and I look forward to the mornings I make it.
